Editor, Times-Union: One can only imagine my shock when, in talking with another mother the other day, she wrinkled her nose when I told her my children attended Madison Elementary School here in Warsaw. In fact, she asked why my children would go there since Madison is one of the "lower" schools! I was flabbergasted!
I have two daughters who have completed the first and third grades this year at Madison. This is their first year to attend Madison after being at a local private school. I, after much investigation, made the choice to place them in public school at Madison. It has been a remarkable year of educational, personal and social growth for my girls and is one of the best choices I have ever made for my children.
The Madison building is certainly not as new as some, but the staff, students and parents take great pride in keeping it in top shape, and it is a building - what really matters are the people! The entire Madison family, as the principal calls it, has made us feel welcome, and cared for from day one! The dedication of the talented teachers and staff are second to none that I have ever encountered. It is a warm, caring environment where every student is loved, safe and expected to give their all in academics and behavior every day. Children of every ability level, skin color, language and economic background are treated with dignity, affection and consideration that flows from the classrooms, lunch room, playground and gym. I am pleased and proud of the good things happening for my children at Madison.
I know national studies show people are generally happier with the school their children attend than the general state of education, and I do not intend to demean any other school. I know that there is quality education coming from all of the buildings that make up Warsaw Community Schools. I simply felt it was time to dispel some, apparently common misconceptions and really "let the cat out of the bag" as to what a great place Madison Elementary really is for children!
