Editor, Times-Union: Often when a tragedy occurs people ask, "What can we do to help?" or "How can something good come out of this?" Many people have asked this question in response to the loss of Lance Cpl. David Fribley. The outpouring of concern, genuine love and affection for a young man who lost his life in service to our country has been remarkable. I had the opportunity to speak with his parents, and with their permission, this letter may serve to answer the many questions I have personally received.
Here are some things people can do in memory of David:
Monetary contributions may be made to one of three scholarship funds in David's memory.

Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation
P.O. Box 37 Mountain Lakes, NJ 07046 Memo: In memory of Lance Cpl. David K. Fribley

Gifts may be made to: Indianapolis War Memorial Museum
431 N. Meridian St. Indianapolis, IN 46204 Memo: In memory of Lance Cpl. David K. Fribley
Give of yourself; contribute time volunteering and doing something for others. Take time to thank a veteran for their service to our country or write a letter to someone you haven't seen in some time. Take action for others in David's name.
In death, David did not desire to be recognized as a hero. In life, he sought to live in a manner that made a difference in the lives of others. A former employer and friend of David's wrote to the family, "David worked for us in 2000, while at Indiana State University. He was reliable, bright, courteous, a hard worker, thoughtful and always thinking ahead - he stayed in contact with us when he went to work in Florida." These are traits that we can model to others, when we do that, David's legacy will live on.

Office Olympics
Editor, Times-Union: To Friends of Ivy Tech State College:
The 2003 Office Olympics was a great success. We had a day filled with competitions highlighting competencies of local administrative professionals. I'm sure each will be back next year to try it again.
Thanks to people like you who contributed gifts and/or money, we were able to award winners with outstanding prizes. In each of the five categories of filing, word processing, transcription, spelling and speed and accuracy, we were able to award prizes to the top five finishers.
The Office Administration Department of Ivy Tech has a goal of not only putting out students who are competent in software skills, but also communication and teamwork skills needed in today's workplace. Hopefully you have encountered some of our graduates.
One of the avenues we use to encourage personal growth is the student chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals. IAAP is a professional organization where students can meet and interact with others in their chosen fields of interest - peers and professionals alike. IAAP meetings incorporate special speakers and workshops geared toward improving necessary communication and technical skills needed to be a successful office administrator.
In addition, we have an office administration advisory committee. This committee meets twice a year and gives input to the development of the office administration program. If you have an interest in joining our advisory committee, please contact me. We can use more community leaders, like you, to keep us current with the needs of local businesses.
I hope we can count on your support again for next year's Office Olympics. Thank you for supporting Ivy Tech and more specifically the student chapter of IAAP.
