Editor, Times-Union: The National Day Of Prayer will be observed in Warsaw on Thursday, May 3rd from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. at the Center Lake Pavilion. The theme is "One Nation Under God" as the 50th Annual National Day of Prayer is observed. The public is cordially invited to attend.
Evangelist Billy Graham has written "A Prayer For The Nation":
"Our Father and our God, we praise you for your goodness to our nation, giving us blessings far beyond what we deserve.
"Yet we know all is not right with America. We deeply need a moral and spiritual renewal to help us meet the many problems we face.
"Convict us of sin. Help us to turn to you in repentance and faith. Set our feet on the path of your righteousness and peace.
"We pray today for our nation's leaders. Give them the wisdom to know what is right and the courage to do it.
"You have said, 'Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.' May this be a new era for America, as we humble ourselves and acknowledge you alone as Savior and Lord.
"This we pray in your holy name, Amen."

Taxes
Editor, Times-Union: I read with interest Alberta Wamsley's letter regarding the property tax increase. Over the years there have been many inequities involved with our Indiana property tax system. Unequal and unfair assessments have been proven in court.
One remedy for the problem of high property taxes is being proposed by the Indiana Farm Bureau organization. This plan would take the massive school funding out of the property tax to be replaced by a 1 percent increase in the sales tax. Even my assessor agrees that this would be a much better way to finance our schools.
This is an opportunity to take the heavy burden of the schools off the homeowner and spread it out more evenly.
If you agree, contact the governor and your state senator and representative to support the Farm Bureau property tax proposal.

Insurance
Editor, Times-Union: I have not written an article for some time, but I am doing this as I think it is something people should know about.
Feb. 7 of this year, my wife and I were in a pretty bad accident. It took place south of Syracuse and several people saw it happen. This was a head-on collision. My wife and I were taken by EMS to Columbia City. I guess a policeman saw it happen and he told me at the hospital that the other person said he was at fault because he was looking at his road map and came over in our lane. We were very lucky as my pickup truck was totaled out by my insurance company.
You would think the other insurance company, being at fault, should have to pay the bills - at least I did.
I have now been notified that my insurance is used up to pay the bills and Medicare paid for some of them. I do not think Medicare should be asked to pay anything on this.
I thought since I have never been involved in an accident it would be better to have a lawyer on this. Now I don't know. I hope he can do something!
I was told today by my insurance lady that so far the other company has not offered to do anything. How can they do that? I asked her about this and she told me this happens a lot. She also said some cases go on for years. I was also told that the company that he is supposedly insured with may be located outside the country. I am sure that will surprise some of you. It sure as h--l did me!
I am writing this as I know lots of people like me believe since they are insured they have nothing to worry about. You should think about this as it could very well happen to you.
At least you have had something to read and I hope most of you will think about this. As they say, "It could happen to you!" I hope not.

Dead Tree
Editor, Times-Union: I would like to express dissatisfaction with the State Highway Department's response to my request for removal of a dead tree located on their right of way near my home. This tree was marked for destruction last summer and still has not been cut down. During the extreme winds of the past week we feel quite unsafe near a tree so tall and unstable. Perhaps one of your readers can give me some tips on getting some action before this tree hits my waterfront home or completely closes Ind. 13.

We, The People
Editor, Times-Union: By my count, if you include the Preamble, the term "the people" appears seven times in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Would someone explain to me why it means just that except in the Second Amendment?
If "the people" means us six times, who were they talking about the seventh?
