Happy Birthday Legion

Editor, Times-Union:
March is the month the American Legion was founded. Today, 81 years later, it's still an organization of men and women who have preserved our peace and freedom around the world. Some are still fighting to preserve freedoms in our world today. The men and women have joined the ranks of millions of our veterans who have fought and died so we could live in freedom.

So I'm asking each person, when they see a veteran, to go up to them and say "Thank You" for the freedoms we have. I'm also asking our veterans who are eligible to join the American Legion to do so and become a member of this outstanding organization. The American Legion Post 49 will be having a carry-in birthday dinner on Sunday, March 26, for members, so I'm urging all Legion family members to come celebrate this occasion.

Speeders

Editor, Times-Union:
I drive to and from Pierceton every week, two or three times. On U.S. 30, the car and truck traffic is heavy. Last Tuesday, I was driving 55 mph (the limit?). However, 17 cars passed me. One car must have been going at least 75 mph! I guess the state should change the 55 mph signs to read: Minimum speed 55 mph! This is referring to the five mile stretch between Pierceton and Warsaw.

Critical Of Greenway

Editor, Times-Union:
In Wednesday night's paper there was a write up on the Greenway Project, about Tuesday's meeting where it mentioned no one opposed at that time.

Question? Was this already a cut and dried deal? And if so I would surely hope there would be a lot more than thirty or so people in attendance that really thought this out.

$1.55 Million Dollars! Is this actual cost? Or is some money set aside for maintenance and repairs? The Parks Department does an excellent job with all that they take care of now, will this be too much? How many months out of the year can this be used and how many will use it?

Nicer weather is just around the corner, kids will be out of school and many will have summer jobs. Many kids like to see and hang out with their friends and many will not have the money for movies, food , etc. And what do we have to offer other than a few dirty parking lots for them to park in then go cruising. Gas prices the way they are will that be easy to do. With a price tag for this project as large as it appears, don't we owe it to the community to offer something that would be used year round? And benefit more people than those pushing this project.

Recycling

Editor, Times-Union:
My name is Jacob Tusing and I am 12 years old. I just wanted to say thank you to the County Waste Management for making it possible for Kosciusko County to recycle glossy paper. My scout pack (730) has a small recycling station for glossy paper inside Washington Elementary School's teacher lounge. We empty the bucket once every week. So far, it has gotten a lot of attention. In response to the curbside recycling survey, I would say yes to the service and I would pay my share of whatever they needed to keep it going. I say this because it would be much easier for everybody to get rid of the recyclables before they pile up and with the high gas prices today it might save you some money.
