Editor, Times-Union: Editors article on EDIT. Let me see Mr. Gerard, if I understand you right. We are all suppose to attend this meeting on March 6, Saturday at 3:00. Which we are all to watch our local governement in action. We, are also to let our elected official's no how we feel on this EDIT tax. Which I may add, is being crammed down our throats by the local realty people. There were a lot of people present at a meeting I attended in November, 1998. This was about the barking dog issue, which these pet owners won't control their pets. The people stated at that time how we felt on this subject, sooooo, where is the action on this. Avis Gunter had asured everyone that the council was looking into it. You want us all to believe by going to this meeting, that we are going to be asured by the same board that they are going to do what's right? You stating that the letters to the editor were quite negative, and most less than factural, some border hysterical. Well, this is about as hysterical as it gets, more like a complete joke. You are editor of this paper, if you seem to think the letters that were sent in to you were so bad, why did you print them? What makes you think by everyone attending this meeting, that it is going to be any different than the dog issue.
It also seems to me, you publish some letters and not others, so you must like what you are printing. You can also set at your desk and explain EDIT as often as you want, it is a tax , period. We all know how it works, tax, tax, tax.

Money Grab
Editor, Times-Union: Taxpayers, your local politicians are grabbing for another tax for us to pay. EDIT is a tax that we don't want and don't need. They, the politicians, already have the monies to pay for a new jail. The needed sewer system is just another "steal." Call your politicians and tell them NO EDIT.

Explaining EDIT
Editor, Times-Union: I would like to take this opportunity to compliment Gary Gerard on this week's "News Views" column explaining EDIT in layman's terms. The EDIT tax is a very misunderstood tax. Gary, you explained it in a very comprehensive manner.
I, like yourself, am not a supporter of more taxes. This tax offers an option to help citizens on fixed incomes and potentially keep property taxes at a reasonable rate.
Kosciusko County has supported our current industrial base and we need to continue to expand the base to keep our community strong.
Tony Silveus, Lifetime Resident of Kosciusko County
Understanding EDIT
Editor, Times-Union: Gary, I just finished reading your editorial on the EDIT tax. I just want to thank you for supporting EDIT. Most of the folks that write to you just do not understand the math. EDIT = Infrastructure improvements = more factories being able to locate in our county = larger tax base = less tax rate = more jobs = a sound local economy = a bright future for everyone.Ê
