Good Job, Pep Band

Editor, Times-Union:
We would like to compliment Mr. Becker and the Pep Band for doing such a great job at the basketball games. We have really enjoyed them.

We were seated next to a visiting fan several weeks ago and he couldn't believe how big the band was. We also think the "Tiger Mascot" does a terrific job. All this adds to the fun of the basketball games.

Thanks for all your hard work, kids!

U.S. Imperialism

Editor, Times-Union:
Why the world puts up with United States imperialism is beyond me. It is no wonder that most of the world hates the Americans. We stick our nose in everyone else's business, push our might on nearly every country in the world.

Hitler thought he was right and wanted to rule the world pushing his might and will upon other countries. Communist Russia did the same along with China and other communist countries. Now, why do we think we are the ones who have all the right answers and must push our beliefs and our will on the rest of the world?

I think it is appalling that we think we have the right to seize a Russian tanker and I'm even more amazed that the Russians haven't, as yet, retaliated.

Our sanctions against Iraq are killing the children over there and I truly believe the oil embargo against Iraq has nothing to do with Saddam Hussein. It is merely a way to drive the oil prices up. Iraq is the richest oil country in the world and without the sanctions, the oil market would be saturated, bringing the oil prices down. What a sick people we are, allowing thousands of innocent children to die just so those in the oil industry can continue to reap the spoils.

When are we going to wake up and realize we cannot believe anything that comes from our corrupt government officials or the media they control.

Spelling Bee Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
On behalf of Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation, host district for the Kosciusko County Spelling Bee and all participating schools, we would like to express our appreciation to the Times-Union staff, LaDonna Thompson, Harvey Miller and WRSW radio station for assistance with and coverage of the first Kosciusko Spelling Bee of the new century.

Additionally, we appreciate the services of Dr. Paulette Sauders, Grace College, who served as pronouncer for this event; and judges Julie Galle, Lindsay Jackson, Bekah Newell, Elizabeth Reitman and Jason Horn. First United Methodist Church of Warsaw and Warsaw Community Schools provided the physical facilities for our spellers to perform. We also wish to thank Mrs. Becky Murphy, Burket Elementary, for refreshments; Mr. Oliver England for technical assistance; Mrs. Sherri Adamson, Burket Elementary, for programs and certificates; and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Riedel, Burket, for acting as hosts for our spellers and their families. We thank all the Kosciusko County teachers who encouraged students to participate in this contest.

Every participant was a champion. Special congratulations to Bryce Durgin, Eisenhower Elementary, winner for grades five and six; and runner-up, Kyle Brown, Tippecanoe Valley Middle School. Seventh and eighth grade runner-up was Brent Danner, Wawasee Middle School; and winner, Ashley Wireman, Edgewood Middle School.

We wish the best of luck to our Kosciusko County Champion for 2000, Miss Ashley Wireman. We know that she will represent us well.
