Supports News Views

Editor, Times-Union:
I wholeheartedly support your article in "News Views." May I add that to disqualify a person for public service through "religious profiling" is hateful, evil and un-American. This destructive philosophy must be rejected by the voters of our great nation.

Woman Of Year Says Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
Thank you to the Times-Union, WRSW-GBC Media and the Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce for the honor of naming me Woman of the Year. My friend, Patrick Brown, once told an audience that award ceremonies are not the finish line in the marathon called life but rather they are the water station where we are refreshed and strengthened so that we may successfully complete the race. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to be refreshed and renewed.

Serving my community is something I learned from my parents and try to model for my children. That service has led me on a rewarding career path and to the best job in the world. Through my job I am in contact with over 50 nonprofit organizations in Kosciusko County; every one counts on volunteer assistance.

Whether organizing a countywide essay contest for fourth-grade students as part of a fund-raiser for the Council on Aging or baking a lasagna dinner for someone who supported a school raffle, I have enjoyed volunteering. Helping out at the Festival of Trees or working with a group of schoolchildren, the investment of time has always been rewarding. From serving as a member of a board of directors to building bat houses with 4-H, I have learned so much. The experiences have been fun and along the way I meet incredible people.

I would encourage every person in our community to spend some time volunteering. If you have an hour a month, read to a class of schoolchildren or deliver Mobile Meals. If you have an hour a week, help out at a nursing home, a youth club or a school. It is said we make time for that which is important to us. Please take time to volunteer; you may discover a whole new world.
