I am writing this in response to the letter written by Jeff Jones asking for friends. I do not know him or anything about his situation, but I myself am incarcerated and know what it is like to feel lonely. Fortunately, I have family and friends that stay in contact with me.
I, being in the prison system, have seen first hand how inmates will reach out to others in hopes of developing a relationship so they can receive money from them. I know several that get more than $800 a month from preying on the sympathy of strangers.I want the public to know that there are other ways he can receive correspondence with others instead of a personal ad. There are many church programs at the facility that can guide an inmate toward mentors that would write them. I also know of an organization called the Human Kindness Foundation that specializes in corresponding and ministering to inmates.
I urge anyone that may answer his need to do so with care and caution.
