Lester D. 'Bud' Hayner

SYRACUSE - Lester D. "Bud" Hayner, 85, of Bonita Springs, Fla., died May 29, 2008, in North Collier Hospital, Naples.

He was born June 9, 1922, in Fort Wayne, to Lester L. and Myrtle R. Davis Hayner. In 1946, he married Gladys Foellinger, who survives.

He graduated from South Side High School and attended Indiana University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Corps in 1943, and proudly served three years. He was owner of Bud Hayner Chevrolet, Huntertown, retiring in 1975. He was a life member of Elks Lodge, and a member of Masonic Lodge, Huntertown, Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine, Fort Wayne, where he was a member of the horse patrol and Jester's Court. After retirement, he moved to Lake Wawasee, where he was a member of the Property owner's Association Board for nine years. He also served on the board of the Turkey Creek Regional Sewer District from its inception.

Also surviving are a son, Charles (and spouse Eva), Big Long Lake; a daughter, Claire (and spouse Gary) Hicks, Columbia City; four grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and two sisters, Phyllis Bear, Sun City West, Ariz., and Lavon Hawk Perry, Indianapolis.

Services will be at a later date. Burial will be in McClintic Cemetery, Lake Wawasee.

Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, is in charge of arrangements.
