LeRoy E. Axline, 89, North Webster, passed away at 3:35 p.m. Jan. 8, 2015, in Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Milford. He was born June 3, 1925, in Mechanicsville, Iowa, to Vern and Helen Clark Axline. In 1947, in Thompsonville, Mich., he married Norma Landis, his wife of 67 years, who survives. He worked on the car ferries crossing Lake Michigan for 17 years. After he was injured on the job, he spent time raising foster children. He was a member of Community of Christ Church, Michigan, and Seafarers International Union. Also surviving are two sons, Loyd Axline, Detroit, Mich., and Roy Axline, Goshen; two daughters, Diane Murray, Mason, Mich., and Theresa Phillers, Walkerton; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Axline, and four brothers: William, Thomas, Robert and Richard Axline. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church, Pierceton, with Pastor Jim Baughman officiating.
