AKRON - Leona Rae Stapleton, 69, of 1170 S. Lakeshore Drive (Rock Lake), Akron, went to be with Jesus at 12:35 a.m. April 21, 2007, in her residence.

She was born Feb. 9, 1938, in Detroit, Mich., to Sisco and Melva Casebolt Bowman. On Aug. 2, 1956, in Logansport, she married Watt E. Stapleton, who survives.

She worked at United Technologies, Peru, for several years, and Torx Products, Rochester. She attended Water of Life Church, Silver Lake, and was a graduate of Iron River (Mich.) High School.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Cindy) Hemingway, Syracuse, and Mrs. Gary (Angie) Bradtke; four sons: Richard Chilcutt, Akron; Welsey (and wife Debbie) Stapleton, Sturgis, Mich.; Troy (and wife Leslie) Stapleton, Leesburg; and Danny (and wife Julie) Stapleton, Royal Center; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Loretta) Merrell, Wimauma, Fla.; and two brothers, Clinton (and wife Mary) Bowman, Ten Mile, Tenn., and David (and wife Teri) McIntosh, Jefferson, Wis. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Jackson, and a brother, James Arnold Bowman.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Henry Arnett Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Ever Rest Memorial Park, Logansport.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
