SYRACUSE – Leona P. Buhrt, 86, of Syracuse, passed away March 22, 2012, in Waterford Crossing Assisted Living Facility, Goshen.
She was born in Warsaw to Wilbur and Esther Stuart Zimmer. In 1944, she married Ray Buhrt, who died in 2009.
Living in the Syracuse area, she and Ray were co-owners of Buhrt Builders for 40 years. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse, Syracuse Senior Mother’s Club and the Wednesday Afternoon Club. She was a former member of Order of the Eastern Star, Syracuse Business and Professional Women’s Club. She took great pride in her role as mentor in the Alzheimer’s Support Group at her church.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all those she touched.
Surviving are a daughter, Joan Currier, Chapel Hill, N.C.; two sons, Dennis (and spouse Jan) Buhrt, Syracuse, and Mike (and spouse Sandra) Buhrt, Milford; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Doris Boggs and Mary (and spouse Mel) Keplinger, all of Warsaw, and Jean Titus, Baycliff, Texas. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Zimmer, and a sister, Esther Wise.
Services will be t 10 a.m. Monday at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse, officiated by Pastor David Herr of Calvary United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Milford.
