COLUMBIA CITY - Leon E. Long, 66, of Pierceton, died at 1:05 a.m. Jan. 19, 2009, in Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.
He was born Nov. 15, 1942, in Plymouth, to Robert and Dessel Bach Long. On Nov. 30, 1963, in Pierceton, he married Sally Jo Widman, who died March 4, 2006.
A lifetime Pierceton resident, he was a 1960 Larwill High School graduate and attended the University of Kentucky for a year. He owned and operated Long Farms in Whitley County and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Pierceton.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen J. (and spouse Layne) Evans and Julie L. (and spouse Dana) Hewitt, all of Pierceton; a son, Christopher L. (and spouse Molly) Long, Pierceton; two sisters, Patricia (and spouse Thomas) Pulliam, Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Nellie (and spouse Herman) Conley, Tucson, Ariz.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a grandson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Pierceton. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
Calling is from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City.
