MONTPELIER – Leo H. Banter, 96, of Warren, passed away at 5:20 a.m. June 10, 2012, in Heritage Pointe, Warren.

He was born Oct. 27, 1915, in Jackson Township-Wells County, to Harley and Millie Boxell Banter. He married Eileen Ford, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 5, 1966, in Markleville, he married Helen Lucile Canter, who preceded him in death.

He was a longtime Blackford County farmer and hauled ag-lime and stone in Blackford and surrounding counties. He lived most of his life in Blackford County. He later enjoyed bicycling. He formerly attended Roll United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Darlene (and spouse Leon) Rohrer, Claypool, and Diane (and spouse Larry) Meyers, Edgemont, Ark.; two sisters, Lorada Weatherholt, Montpelier, and Lillian (and spouse Clarence) Murphy, Noblesville; a brother, James (and spouse Beverly) Banter, Hartford City; several nieces and nephews; five grandchildren: Wesley and Dustin Gearheart, both of Warsaw; Mark and Kevin Meyers, both of Ferndale, Ark.; and Shanna Meyers, Fayetteville, Ark.; and two great-grandchildren, Hayley  and Hannah Gearheart, both of Tamarac, Fla.; and a brother-in-law, Floyd Elliott, Warren. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Leo Freddie Banter; two brothers, Lester and Leon Banter; and a sister, Martha Louise Elliott.

A service to celebrate his life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier, with Gerald Moreland officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Memorial Park, Montpelier.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
