BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Lela Sharon Wilson, 77, of Battle Creek, Mich., died Dec. 14, 2012, in her home. She was born April 14, 1935, in Pierceton, to Delmar and Maxine Jones Gebert. In 1960, she married Robert Wilson Jr., who survives. Sharon graduated from Ball State University in 1958 and continued her education at Kellogg Community College and Western Michigan University. She was a teacher in the Battle Creek and Lakeview Schools. She retired in 1996 from Harper Creek Schools where she taught developmentally disabled adults. In 1983 she was appointed volunteer coordinator of the Volunteer Bureau/Volunteer Action Center, and in 1985 she became director of the Literary Council of Calhoun County. She was a member of The First Congregational Church, Battle Creek Country Club, and the Junior League of Battle Creek. Sharon enjoyed family events, especially activities involving her grandchildren. Other hobbies included hosting parties for family and friends, and scrapbooking. Also surviving are three sons: Robert (and spouse Pamela) Wilson III, and Kenneth (and spouse Jennifer) Wilson, all of Battle Creek; Jeffrey (and spouse Charlene) Wilson, South Haven; a daughter, Nancy Ward, Chicago; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Gebert; and a sister, Diane Hensley. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shaw Funeral Home, 2838 Capital Avenue Southwest, Battle Creek, Mich., with the Rev. Thomas Ryberg officiating.
