LEESBURG – Leesburg Town Council voted Monday night to approve a proposal from American Legal Publishing to update the town ordinance book. The last major ordinance update was conducted in 1982, according to the American Legal Publishing representative, and the corporation plans to go through all the town’s ordinances, recodify, see what remains valid and compare each ordinance to state law. The representative also said the corporation partners with Indiana Association of Cities and Towns and can compare Leesburg’s ordinances to those of other area communities. The corporation will then offer a code book that is indexed, a CD of all ordinances to be placed on file with the town and an online option both at Leesburg’s website and American Legal Publishing’s website. The initial cost to update the town’s ordinances is approximately $4,000 with an additional $500 for the CD and Internet option. After the initial cost, there would be an annual fee around $500 to maintain the ordinances and keep them up to date. The council also voted to approve a $17,150 quote from Phend & Brown, Leesburg, to pour a 1-1/2-inch overlay on School Street west to Brubaker. The overlay is scheduled to pour before the end of the year. In other business: • Leaf pick-up has begun. Residents should separate brush and trash from their leaves to allow easy pick-up.
