Leesburg Students Learn About Eastern Woodland Native AmericansStudents at Leesburg Elementary recently began discovering the world of the Eastern Woodland Native Americans through both in-class and out-of-class educational experiences. Students were given the opportunity to measure a longhouse, a traditional Eastern Woodland Native American home. In addition, the children discovered the history of the False Face Society, a medicinal society that used ancient healing rituals amongst the Eastern Woodland Native Americans. Members of the society created and wore “false face” masks to use during healing rituals. Students were able to create and showcase their own masks while learning about the society.
