LEESBURG - The town of Leesburg will be working with local law enforcement in an effort to stop speeding problems.
Residents have expressed concern over the past few months about people who drive through town at an excessive rate of speed. Council president Bob Cleveland said Monday the town will enter a contract with a local law enforcement officer to patrol the town on occasion.
Cleveland said the officer's hours will fluctuate, and that he will be in town on a patrol basis only. Anyone with domestic and other problems will be asked to call the sheriff's department.
Council member Lois Jones said county police are patrolling the town at different times, and council member Steve Rodgers said the state is also giving Leesburg some attention.
Council members believe a lot of the problems come from lake traffic, and that things will slow down now that summer is over.

Council agreed to remove the pay phone located near the town hall. The phone has been vandalized at least eight times, said street commissioner Ed Riordan, and there are problems with youth misusing phone services.
