LEESBURG - Leesburg Town Council met Monday night for its first meeting of 2011.
The board voted to retain Tom Moore as board president in 2011. The board also voted to appoint Larry Richey as vice president.
Street Commissioner Brandon Queen thanked the residents of Leesburg for cooperating with a parking ordinance which prohibits on-street parking between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.
"It really helps us get the snow cleared," Queen said.
"It's a big help to see the cars off the street during those hours, so thank you," Moore added.
The board also thanked the volunteers who helped with the luminaria display that took place in December.
"We had about 200 to 300 people out walking around. It really seemed to rejuvenate neighborliness," Clerk-Treasurer Jan Carter said.
The town received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service indicating that there are back taxes to be paid. Moore said the board is in the process of getting more information, and they will share that information as soon as they receive it. Once the correct amount is known, the board will be able to make the proper appropriations, which will be advertised.
The board urged Leesburg residents to abide by an ordinance regarding sidewalk maintenance. According to the ordinance, each property owner and the occupant of each building and lot within the town are required to remove snow from the sidewalks adjacent to their properties before 9 a.m. of each day that snow accumulates enough to make walking dangerous or difficult.
This ordinance, and all of the town's ordinances, can be found online at www.leesburgindiana.com by following the "information" link.
The next regular meeting will be Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m.
