There are several reasons why Leesburg should join the Kosciusko County Planning Commission.
1). In recent years small businesses have been built on land on which homes previously stood. These businesses are welcome, but not in the middle of a residential neighborhood. What happens when these businesses go bust? Their abandoned buildings remain. Leesburg needs zoning laws that will preserve its neighborhoods.
2.) A decision must be made about the old Leesburg School property. This property should not be sold off to developers to build whatever they choose. The land should be used in a way that will compliment and beautify the town. It should either become a park or it should be subdivided for new homes.3) The new Leesburg School will likely spur new development around it. People like to live close to schools. There should be some thought and planning put into how that area is developed.
Leesburg should seriously consider joining the county planning commission.
