Leesburg Names Temporary Town Clerk

Posted
LEESBURG - Leesburg resident Jan Carter will serve as temporary clerk-treasurer and wastewater clerk until the May 6 caucus.

Monday night the Leesburg Town Council held a special meeting to pay the town's bills.

Before the bills were presented, council president Rick Stookey referenced Indiana Code regarding naming a temporary replacement for the clerk-treasurer position vacated by Melissa Robinson's resignation April 12.

Stookey then named Carter the town's temporary clerk-treasurer and gave her keys to the town building and the office. Farmers State Bank also has been notified of Carter's temporary appointment, and she will be able to sign checks to pay the town's bills.

"Until the caucus I am doing this for the town," Carter said. "I am doing this as a friend of the town."

The council also unanimously approved motions to pay claim dockets from Feb. 8 to March 8 for $6,079.36, and from March 8 to April 19 for $9,568.24.

The Leesburg Town Council will hold its next regular meeting May 10. There will be a caucus to appoint a new clerk-treasurer May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Leesburg Town Hall.

The town will open bids for the stormwater project April 23 at 2 p.m. at the town hall.
