LEESBURG - Leesburg Town Council met briefly Monday night to discuss a light agenda.
Street Commissioner Brandon Queen reported that all of the street department's equipment is currently running well. He also reported the town still has a large supply of the salt and sand used for snow removal.
The board discussed the option of storing any excess salt until next year. Board member Doug Jones recommended that Queen and the board wait and see if there is any more snow accumulation over the next few months.
"Living in Indiana, I don't think we know for sure if it's done snowing yet. I think we should let the current supply run out and figure out what to do with the excess from there," Jones said.
Derek Tenney gave the sanitary and sewer report, including an inventory of pumps and parts. Tenney presented a list of parts that need to be ordered, but the board discussed the possibility of finding different suppliers for the items in order to get the best possible pricing for each.
Board President Tom Moore commended Queen for his recent work.
"It was a job well done during the blizzard of 2011," Moore said.
The only item of new business to be discussed Monday night was Queen's overtime compensation for the 10 extra hours he worked during the recent snow storms.
"We are all aware of the good job of our street commissioner," Moore said, "and there are two options for how we can compensate him. We can pay time and a half or use comp time."
The board decided to pay Queen time and a half. The board then moved to pay the street commissioner time and a half for any hours worked more than 40 hours in the future.
