LEESBURG – Repairs and pump replacements were two major issues discussed at a brisk Leesburg board meeting Monday evening. Street Commissioner Brandon Queen said leaf pick-up is going well and will continue until Thanksgiving, pending decent weather. “We’re on top of things,” Queen said. “As long as the snow doesn’t come in two weeks.” Queen said the salt and sand is scheduled for delivery this week. Derek Tenney, who oversees sewer maintenance, said a backup pump for Leesburg Elementary School should be purchased because there are “several issues going on.” He said the cables going down into the pit have all been replaced but there is a high volume of trash thrown into it. Tenney mentioned there have been frequent instances of pencils, pens, feminine products and toys “thrown down there.” “They go down, and they go down quick,” Tenney said. The backup pump will cost roughly $2,050 brand new and will only take five to 10 minutes to replace when necessary. “Everyone has the same exact pump, except for the school,” Tenney said. There have been several concerns from the public regarding the speed limit on town streets. The board said to be aware of the speed limit and contact law enforcement for any issues. Tenney said he was excited to announce starting Nov. 23 at 8:30 a.m., the fire department will begin installing Christmas lights for the holiday season. As a reminder, the board mentioned there is no parking allowed from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. on streets in town. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
