Leesburg Gets Sewer Timetable

Posted
LEESBURG - A tentative timetable for the Leesburg sewer project was given to the town council Monday night.

Joe Tierney, of the GRW engineering firm, presented a tentative schedule with important dates for the sewer project that will begin sometime this year in Leesburg."We are at a point where we need to start pushing things or we will be waiting and waiting and waiting," Tierney said.

Tuesday, Tierney presented members of the council with a draft of a sewer use ordinance. He asked council members and town attorney Vern Landis to look over the draft and think about changes that may need to be made.

Tierney said that the time to advertise for bids is approaching quickly, and said Feb. 27 is a tentative date to place ads for construction bids.

A pre-bid meeting also needs to be set to allow possible contractors to ask questions they have about the project. This meeting tentatively is set for March 10 at 3 p.m.

If bids are advertised Feb. 27, bids will be accepted until March 21. A meeting will be held at that time to open the bids and take them under advisement. Once bids are received, the town will need to go through the closing process.

If the tentative schedule is followed, construction could start sometime between mid-May and late June. Once the project is started, the project is expected to take eight to 10 months to complete.

In other business, the council approved the salary ordinance for 2008. No changes were made to the ordinance, and it is the same as last year.

Leesburg Town Council members are Jay Weaver, Ryan Robinson and Rick Stookey, president. Town clerk is Melissa Robinson, and street commissioner is Ed Riordan. Riordan was absent from Monday's meeting.
