Leesburg Council Hears Update on Paving

Posted
LEESBURG – The Leesburg town council met briefly Monday evening and discussed an update with the Church Street paving project and agreed to purchase a new motor.
Last month the board said there was some miscommunication between Phend & Brown Inc. and Butt & Timmons Construction regarding the Church Street paving. During the process of the concrete work, there was a strip of 12 to 15 feet remaining. Board member Doug Jones said Phend & Brown Inc. is going to finish paving the street.
Danny Tenney updated the board with the sanitary sewage report. He said there hasn’t been a need to replace any pumps, but there is a motor that needs some work. The motor is submerged in water and it is this moisture that is causing issues. Tenney said it is estimated $600 to fix the windings in the motor, and roughly $1,100 for a new motor.
The motor is from 2009, and board president Tom Moore said he isn’t a fan of rewinding motors. The board discussed their options and decided it would be more beneficial to purchase a new motor.
“I don’t think we’re saving anything,” Moore said. “I’d rather have a new motor.”
In other business the board:
• Said the recycle bins are in place at the Leesburg Mill and people seem to be finding them fine. Board member Doug Jones said he knows many people missed them.
• Moore reminds the town to take advantage of the sidewalk replacement program.
The board reminds the town there is no burning of anything at any time, and there is no parking on any city street from 3 to 5 a.m. The next regular board meeting is Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m.
