Leesburg Buys Billing Software

Posted
LEESBURG - Updates on the sewer project were heard, and new billing software was purchased Monday night at the Leesburg Town Council meeting.

Currently, all the town's finances are kept by hand on ledgers. Monday, the board approved purchasing software from Keystone to process the town's sewer billing, payroll and budget information pending the approval of the Department of Rural Development. Four programs totaling $16,450 will be purchased with funds from the Rural Development grant the town received earlier this year. The purchase also includes nine days of training for town clerk Melissa Robinson to learn the software and procedures.

The software is approved by the Indiana State Board of Accounts and is updated yearly with any of the board's changes.

To run the programs, the town also will need to purchase a laptop or desktop computer and a laser printer.

Representatives from GRW Engineering Firm told the board that grinder pump and control panel locations for residents will be staked beginning this week, and the project is scheduled to be finished April 22.

The town approved $6,800 for the purchase of a railroad permit necessary for the sewer project. Funds will be transferred from the town's Economic Development Income Tax fund to the Cumulative Capital Investment Fund to cover the transaction. Then the information will be submitted to the Department of Rural Development and the town will be reimbursed.

GRW also informed the board that monthly progress meetings on the sewer project will be held the second Monday of each month at 2:30 p.m. to review progress and issues of construction and pay claims by the contractor.

GRW also told the town that bills for the interim sewer rate need to be sent out beginning this month. If the bills cannot be sent out this month, a double bill may need to be sent out in August.
