Leesburg Board Approves Extra Cost for Basin Work

LEESBURG – The Leesburg Town Board discussed town cooperation and a few topics for the remainder of the year at its final meeting of 2014 Monday.
Street Commissioner Brandon Queen reiterated the final day for leaf pick-up was scheduled for Nov. 24. He said a few people set out their leaves since that date and he plans to pick them up.
“We don’t have enough equipment to pick up leaves all winter long,” board member Tom Moore said. “It’s nice the town cooperates with the leaf pick-up schedule.”
One final issue to arise at the end of the year was an overage cost to the basin bid by Butt & Timmons Construction. The original contract stated it was only to replace the storm catch basin. This did not include any other piping leading into or away from the basin.
A pipe was discovered in the process that was damaged beyond repair, and an additional $2,250 was used to replace it. The total cost was $4,580.
“It did not make sense to close the hole and not fix it,” board member Doug Jones said.
The board also approved the 2015 salary ordinance as follows: street commissioner salary is set for $28,800; the clerk treasure’s salary will be $24,000, divided by $7,000 for the clerk and $17,000 for the sewage clerk; deputy clerk will earn $13 per hour; town trustees will earn $2,000 each; and the town attorney will earn $3,500.
The Candleria is scheduled for Saturday evening. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. but children will begin setting out the candles and lighting them at 3:30 p.m. Maple Leaf Farms donated $500 to this event.
The board wants to remind the public there is no parking on any street between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. and there is no burning of anything allowed at any time.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 12.
