Leesburg

I moved to the town of Leesburg nearly 25 years ago. It has always been a low-key, quiet community. This is why I feel the need to reply to Mr. Ellis' latest letter to the editor. We all know that Mr. Ellis does not like Mr. Riordan; he has been very vocal about that in his past letters. Now he is throwing Steve Wood into the mix.

As for Mr. Ellis' comment about the town finances being audited, I know from experience that the State Board of Accounts does that every other year.

If I didn't know any better, Mr. Ellis' letters would lead me to think Leesburg is a seedy little corrupt town. Maybe it's time Mr. Ellis moved to a bigger city. Of course, then he might not have time to hang out in local businesses, watch who is coming and going, and decide who is worthy of doing one job or another. Just think of all the corruption he could clean up for a much larger municipality. The possibilities are endless.

I must say every now and then Mr. Ellis does write a letter that is quite entertaining. I believe my favorite letter was written Sept. 8, 2008. This letter didn't have anything to do with the town. It was the one about his pastor and church. Mr. Ellis wanted everyone to know how his life changed because of them. If I may quote him, he said, "after the service I feel better about myself and others as I'm not perfect like no one else is." I honestly laughed out loud. I thought to myself, is he implying that he is a good "love thy neighbor" Christian? All of his letters are mean-spirited and debasing to others.

In his latest letter Mr. Ellis mentioned the "Jones" boys. Are they boys or men? Who is he to tell everyone that they are happy? They each have a voice and can speak for themselves.

As for Harold Jones, I agree he is a respected man. Anyone that has lived in the area knows Harold. Even though Harold doesn't live in Leesburg anymore, he did for many years, and this community supported his business and embraced his family.

I assume Harold still considers Leesburg his hometown, and I am hoping that he makes the right choices for this town. Based on Mr. Ellis' letter to the editor from Sept. 5, 2008, I also assume that we will not see him sitting on the town council. At that time he stated, "Town board members should be elected, not appointed."
