The Lee Anne Stewart Dance School competitors attended classes and had a successful weekend at the Chicago Dance America Competition and Dance Olympus Convention.
The regional competition was hosted Feb. 20 at the Paramount Theatre and was followed by the Dance Olympus Workshop Feb. 21.
Dancers, including 27 Lee Anne Stewart dancers, arrived in Chicago from around the region to take classes from nationally recognized instructors in ballet, hip hop, tap, jazz, lyrical and contemporary dance styles. While new choreography and proper dance technique is a primary focus during the workshop, the dancers also learned about the importance of proper nutrition, stretching and strengthening.
The Lee Anne Stewart dance competitors have been taking dance classes at the Nappanee and Syracuse dance schools, and also attending extra rehearsals each week from October through February in preparation for the regional competition. Their work will continue as they now prepare for the Dance America National Competition Finals to be held in Orlando, Fla., July 3-6. While in Orlando, the Stewart dancers will also be attending additional dance workshops from July 7-9.
Classes at the Syracuse and Nappanee Lee Anne Stewart Dance Schools continue through May followed by the dance productions and registration for fall dance classes.
