Lee Aker Simpson

Lee Aker Simpson was born Sept. 7, 1950, in Warsaw. He attended Warsaw Schools and Culver Military Academy. He was active in Warsaw Boy Scout Troop 30 and attended Boy Scout camp at Pioneer Trails for several summers, earning several sharpshooter awards and was a member of the National Rifle Association. While at Warsaw High School, he served as team manager of the football team. Lee’s love of music won him many awards while active in the high school band program and, additionally he was a member of several 1960s garage bands such as Up A Tree and U.S. Male. Lee had an extensive collection of music recordings and was especially a fan of Miles Davis.
Following high school graduation, he attended Miami-Dade Community College in Miami, Fla., receiving his degree in radio and television broadcasting.
Joining the U.S. Army Airborne in 1971, he was stationed in Fort Knox, Ky.; Fort Bragg, N.C.; and in 1972, transferred to Heidelberg, Germany, as a transportation records specialist. He was honorably discharged in April 1973.
On return to the U.S., he enrolled at Indiana University, Bloomington, where he received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Sociology and attended graduate school studying instructional technology. Lee was a member of the America Legion and Sons of the American Revolution. He was also a volunteer for Special Olympics. He continued to live in the Bloomington area until moving to Louisville, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Alan and Donna Jean Aker Simpson, of Warsaw. He is survived by a sister, Jennifer L. Simpson, Warsaw; a brother, Mark A. Simpson, of Pierceton; and a niece, Dana L. Hatfield, Warsaw. Also surviving are three stepdaughters: Rhonda Balliett, Bloomington; Jessica Woodruff and Kristin May, of Louisville, Ky.
Lee passed on June 19, 2025, in Louisville, Ky., after a short illness.
No service is planned at his request. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
