Ledgeview Brewing To Be Featured On America’s Best Restaurants

Posted
Local restaurant Ledgeview Brewing Company will be hosting a visit from America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) in early May.

America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on local, independently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the restaurant on May 9. Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with owners Abby and Craig McLaren about the restaurant’s special place in the community, according to a news release from ABR. The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.

The inspiration for Ledgeview stemmed from a brewing kit that Abby gave Craig for Christmas one year, hoping to spark interest in a hobby that would ease his hyperfocus on being a chef. Craig soon found he had a knack for making beer, and friends and family liked it so much they thought he should “do something with it.”

Within the year, Craig won the bourbon barrel category in the Boston Homebrew Competition, plus a few other awards, and that was all the inspiration he needed. He’d always wanted to own his own place, but needed to move to a cheaper area in order to make that dream come true.

The couple then moved from Boston to Indiana, Abby’s home state, and opened Ledgeview in December 2020.

“We’re a 95% scratch kitchen,” said Abby, adding that they grind and smoke their own meats, make all sauces and dressings from scratch, and even shred their own cabbage for slaw. They’d purchased ready-made ingredients in the past, only to have the staff complain that the quality wasn’t as good. “We don’t want to take shortcuts.”

The restaurant offers a rotating selection of beers, all brewed, fermented and kegged in-house. Creatively named, they include the Squirrel Stew Brown Ale which uses locally sourced maple syrup, and Dark Ledge Stout, made with chocolate malt, and one of Abby’s favorites, the release states.

Abby said the customer favorites, which will likely be featured on the episode, were usually created by accident. The Sweet Potato Nachos, considered a signature item, “kinda came out of nowhere” when Craig put together pulled pork on top of sweet potato fries, with typical nacho toppings.

Then there’s the Lil’ Piggy Burger, topped with pulled pork, fried onions and four kinds of cheese. The sheer height of the burger requires a steak knife through the center to keep it together when served.

America’s Best Restaurants will be filming on location on May 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. EST. Ledgeview Brewing Company’s finished episode premiere date will be announced on their Facebook page and will be featured on America’s Best Restaurants’ website at https://americasbestrestaurants.com/rests/indiana/ledgeview-brewing-company.
