Warsaw Public Works Superintendent Kim Leake resigned from his position effective today, Mayor Ernie Wiggins announced.

The move comes on the heels of Leake being charged with with two misdemeanor counts of battery Thursday and an executive session meeting of the Warsaw Board of Works Monday.

"Kim's resignation was his decision - it was voluntary," Wiggins said. "I greatly appreciate what Kim has done for the city of Warsaw over the past 18 years. And I wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors."

Leake was an 18-year employee of the city, serving the last eight years as street superintendent. He replaced Pat Ragan in 1990.

Wiggins said Lacey Francis will serve as interim superintendent of public works. A decision on whether that position becomes permanent will be made in six months, he said.
