LEESBURG — Leaf pick-up will begin Oct. 1 in Leesburg and will end Dec. 1.
Street Commissioner Craig Charlton provided information and instructions about leaf pick-up during the Leesburg Town Council meeting Monday.
Leaves should be raked to the street but not into the street, Charlton said. No grass, sticks, pine needles, walnuts or yard/garden waste are to be mixed in with the leaves. Those items are to be placed in the town-provided trash totes.
The town of Leesburg reserves the right to reject leaf pick-up that has any of the above listed materials mixed in with the leaves.
In another matter, council passed a motion to continue forward in the grant application process for a proposed walking path by agreeing to provide a letter of intent from the town.
Donny Ritsema, senior community development planner at Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG); Kosciusko County Coordinator Amy Roe and Chad Salzbrenner, senior project manager at Fleis and Vandenbrink, attended Monday night’s meeting to discuss the next steps in the grant application process.
The town is applying for grants from the Community Amenities Program (CAP), which is a grant initiative aimed at assisting with community projects that enhance quality of life, and from the Indiana Trails Program, which is a grant program focused on the development of trails throughout the state.
Council also passed a motion to hold a public budget hearing regarding the 2026 budget at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 22.
In addition, council will hold a workshop at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16 as they seek to amend the verbiage in the abandoned vehicle ordinance to better define what an abandoned vehicle is. This is to ensure all vehicles are plated, in running condition and are being moved on a reasonable basis.
