Students who volunteer aren't looking for monetary rewards for their efforts.
But by being a community service volunteer, those students are eligible to win up to $2,500.
For the second consecutive year, EMBARQ and the Times-Union are presenting "Leaders of Tomorrow." The program asks community members to nominate high school students, grades 9-12, who have exemplified extraordinary leadership skills. "Leaders of Tomorrow" is a statewide competition, and 12 winners will be chosen from EMBARQ's 12 districts in Indiana. Each winner and the school they attend will receive $500.
The top winner and the school they attend each will receive $2,500 from EMBARQ. The finalists and winner will be announced the week of March 19.
Every student nominated in Kosciusko County's district will be featured in a special section of the Times-Union.
A selection committee will review the nominees to determine the winners based on community volunteerism, academic success and extracurricular activities.
"Many students throughout the state of Indiana have been recognized for their volunteerism through the Leaders of Tomorrow program," said Jack Moore, EMBARQ public affairs manager. "EMBARQ is pleased to partner once again with the Times-Union to honor area youth and their leadership roles."
Nomination forms are available at the Times-Union office, or online at leadersot.com Nominations must be received by Feb. 16. For more information, call 877-760-4978.
