LCA Starts Capital Campaign To Retire Mortgage

Posted
WINONA LAKE - Lakeland Christian Academy board and administration announced the kick-off of a capital campaign to retire the mortgage on their building at 1093 S. CR 250E, Winona Lake.

A gift of shares of Biomet stock given to the school this week covers approximately half of the campaign's need. The campaign will seek an additional $600,000 dollars to pay off the loan, and will enable the non-profit Christian school to operate debt free.

Lakeland Christian Academy has been in operation since 1974, and in their present location for seven years. The building was built using volunteer help and donated materials. The building is valued at $4.5 million.

LCA serves students in grades 7-12 and their families. The school is accredited by the North Central Association and the Association of Christian Schools International. Allyn Decker, board chair, reported the school received a renewal of its accreditation in December 2006 for another seven years.

In addition, the mission of the school is that students "become spiritually mature, academically competent and socially responsible."

Academically, the school meets or exceeds the Indiana state standards for graduation. All academics are taught from a Biblical worldview. There is an emphasis on the spiritual growth of the students. Students attend chapel once a week, take a Bible class, and have opportunities for growth on a more individual level with the interaction of their peers and teachers. A sense of community involvement is fostered by the small groups that serve in community organizations one afternoon a week.

Lakeland Christian Academy also has a large offering of successful interscholastic sports including volleyball, soccer, basketball, golf, baseball and track for all grades.

The school is taking new enrollments for the fall for most grades. For more information about the school or the capital campaign, call Joy Lavender, administrator, at 574-267-7265 or 574-453-6213, or visit online at www.lcacougars.com
