Staff Report-
Lakeland Christian Academy recently held its 3rd annual Scholastic Chess Tournament.
Tournament organizer Jay Balduc, of Madison Elementary School, is responsible for the success of the day.
At least 130 players competed for trophies and medallions.
"Everyone walks away with something at our tournaments", Balduc said.
The Lakeland tournament is one of three Balduc organizes in a school year. This one is pivotal because it is the weekend before state finals in Indianapolis and gives competitors one more chance to brush up on their skills before the finals.
The tournament was open to all local elementary, middle and high schools, as well as adults, for players who are both rated and non-rated.
Area participating schools were Jefferson Elementary, Madison Elementary, Sacred Heart Catholic School, Lincoln Elementary, Eisenhower Elementary, Washington Elementary, Lakeview Middle School, Warsaw Community High School, Lakeland Christian Academy and Home School students.
