Claiming negligence in the care and treatment of their 19-year-old son, the parents of Ronald A. Kitt have filed a lawsuit against the clinic where he sought treatment, as well as a doctor, a nurse and an ambulance service.
Ronald and Donna Kitt are the administrators of the estate of Ronald A. Kitt, who died Aug. 13, 2000, shortly after being released from care at MedStat in Warsaw. His diagnosis, from Wendall Garcia, M.D., was an "upper respiratory infection with vertigo." The case notes that Ronald A. Kitt also was under the care of Michael M. Farland, R.N.
Shortly after returning home from the clinic, Donna Kitt found her son unresponsive to verbal or tactile contact and called for Multi-Township Emergency Medical Service, whose paramedics transported the teenager to Kosciusko Community Hospital.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other revival techniques were performed on Ronald A. Kitt for two hours before he was pronounced dead.
A postmortem examination revealed the cause of Ronald A. Kitt's death to be "severe dehydration and hyponatremia due to laryngotracheobronchitis and hyperglycemia," according to the lawsuit filed in Kosciusko Circuit Court.
Court documents claim the teenager's death was a "direct and proximate" result of the defendants' negligence and failure to treat and diagnose his medical condition.
The Kitts are seeking an unspecified amount to compensate for the mental anguish occasioned by the death of their only son, for funeral expenses and for costs incidental to Ronald A. Kitt's death. A jury trial is requested.
The attorneys for the Kitts are Jerome M. Taylor, Kaiser D. Lowe and Monica Webster Lowe of Crown Point.
