AKRON – Lawrence “Larry” A. Basham, 82, Mishawaka, died at 3:45 p.m. March 17, 2015, at Signature Health Care of Bremen, after being in failing health for three years. He was born May 8, 1932, in Logansport, to Stuart and Juanita Benson Basham. On May 18, 1952, in Fort Smith, Ark., he married Mary Etta Cox, who survives in Mishawaka. He worked for American Electric Power for 26 years as a lineman and a supervisor. he also owned and operated with his wife South Bend Pools and also 3E Electric and Construction Inc. for many years. He graduated from Logansport High School in 1950, where he played football and ran track. He then got redshirted at the University of Minnesota, where he had a scholarship. He was then drafted during the Korean War and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the St. Joseph County Valley Home Builders. He enjoyed being outdoors, farming, and he loved Notre Dame. Also surviving are a daughter, Cindy (and spouse Richard) Osborn, Mishawaka; two grandsons, Blaine Osborn, Seattle, Wash., and Neil Osborn, West Lafayette; and a brother, Jerry (and spouse Connie) Basham, Kokomo. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Franklin Thomas and Phillip Basham. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Thad Stewart officiating. Burial is in Akron Cemetery. Calling is from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. ***** Memorials to donor’s choice.
