SYRACUSE – Laurence C. “Larry” Griffith, 94, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully June 20, 2013, in his residence.
He was born Oct. 5, 1918, in Fort Wayne, to Lauren and Theresa O’Neil Griffith. On Oct. 25, 1947, he married Rosemary C. Schirmeyer, who died in 2011.
He was a Lake Wawasee resident since 1946, coming from Fort Wayne. He owned and operated Griffith’s Wawasee Marina until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Martins de Porres Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus, Syracuse; Syracuse American Legion; and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed playing golf and boating on the lake.
Surviving are two daughters, Lisa (and spouse Dan) Mikolajczak, Syracuse, and Andrea (and spouse Mark) Stinson, Anderson; two sons, Terry (and spouse Karen) Griffith and Dan (and spouse Richele) Griffith, all of Syracuse; three grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Hannum; two brothers, Donald (and spouse Kate) Griffith and James Griffith; and a sister-in-law, Doris Griffith. He also was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
A mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, Syracuse. A private burial will follow at McClintic Cemetery with full military honors.
Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse, and one hour prior to the mass Tuesday at the church.
