LARWILL - The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department received a report of an individual threatening to commit suicide Monday at about 4:19 p.m. Whitley sheriff’s deputies later arrested Jeremy Todd Guthrie, 41, at his mobile home after a nearly five-hour standoff. Guthrie is charged with pointing a loaded firearm and is being held on $100,000 bond. His initial court appearance will be Dec. 3, at 1:30 p.m. in Whitley County Superior Court. The caller, a female acquaintance of the person, told deputies she received text messages from Guthrie stating he was going to kill himself. Sheriff’s deputies responded to an address on CR 700 W., south of Larwill. When Guthrie failed to answer his door, deputies forced open a rear door on the mobile home and made entry. The deputies were immediately confronted by Guthrie pointing a handgun at the officers. The deputies exited the mobile home and called for additional officers. The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team was called to the scene to assist. Negotiators from the Indiana State Police attempted to persuade Guthrie to exit the mobile home but he refused. Tear gas was projected through a front window and at 9:24 p.m. Guthrie exited the mobile home and was taken into custody. Guthrie was transported to Parkview Whitley Hospital for observation, then incarcerated in the Whitley County Jail.
