AKRON – Larry L. Klein, 80, Akron, died at 11:05 a.m. Feb. 19, 2016, at Kosciusko Community Hospital of Warsaw, after being in failing health for several months.
He was born Aug. 14, 1935, in Akron, to Ellis and Treva Morris Klein. On June 19, 1955, in Akron, he married Barbara McDaniel, who  preceded him in death in August 1973. On Sept. 13, 1977, in Mishawaka, he married Carolyn Kay Slaby, who survives in Akron.
He had been a superintendent, principal and school teacher at Maconaquah Schools and North Miami Schools where he coached basketball and cross country. He also had been a minister in Muncie, Church of God, and Peru, First Church of God. He was dean of students at Warner Christian Academy, South Dayton Beach, Fla.
He was a 1953 graduate of Beaver Dam High School, then Anderson College in 1958, and earned a master’s degree in school administration from Butler University. He was ordained in 1986 as a minister of the Church of God. He was a former member of the Akron Lions Club and the Rochester Optimist Club.
Also surviving are a daughter, Kathy Miles, Akron; two sons, Melvin Klein, Fort Wayne, and Gary Klein, Beaver Dam Lake, Claypool; two stepdaughters, Cami (and spouse Steve) Nail, Atlanta, Ga., and Keriann (and spouse David) Martin, Knightstown; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Verl Miles, who died in 2013.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday with memorial visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. at Akron Church of God, Akron, with Pastor Ryan Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery, Akron.
Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
