Larry C. Terrell

ATTICA - Larry Charles Terrell, 69, of Inman, S.C., passed away peacefully at his Lake Bowen home Oct. 14, 2009, with his family by his side.

He was born July 18, 1940, in Attica, to Charles and Ann Terrell. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rita June Terrell.

A graduate of Attica High School, he attended Purdue University and held certificates for technical and leadership studies completed at Krannert Donnelley Management Seminar, Purdue University; Crosby Quality College, Winter Park, Fla.; and Greensboro Center for Leadership, Eckerd University.

He retired from R.R. Donnelley and Sons Co. in 2004, after 45 years. Joining the company in 1959 as a material handler in Crawfordsville, a year later he transferred to Warsaw to begin an apprenticeship in the pressroom. In 1976, he was named pressroom superintendent of Warsaw's east plant pressroom. In 1979, he transferred to Spartanburg, S.C., where he supervised the construction, installation and initial start-up of five gravure presses at Donnelley's new Spartanburg plant. He was the customer service manager for that division.

He served on the corporate integration team following Donnelley's acquisition of Meredith Burda in 1990. During the Customer Care Micro Design Team TSA project in 2002, he was also added to the team as a senior advisor due to his broad and deep expertise in all facets of printing production.

After retiring from Donnelley, he worked with his son Tracey at Quality Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Greenwood, S.C., where he was special projects manager. He was also an accomplished master gardener, an avid swimmer and a road racer. He was chairman of the Spartanburg YMCA where he served on the board for many years. He was co-chairman of the Kosciusko County Cancer Society Fund Drive. He served six years as Cub Scout Master for Pack 3731, Warsaw. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Spartanburg.

Also surviving are four children, Jody (and spouse Andy) Gable and Tracey (and spouse Annie) Terrell, all of Greenwood, S.C.; Todd (and spouse Leslie) Terrell, Gulfport, Miss.; and Janel (and spouse Scott) Holt, Gallatin, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Benjamin, Ellen Bess and Trey Gable; Christian, Ethan and Alexis Terrell; Zachary Holt; and Britton Schirra; and three sisters: Nancy Smith, Lafayette; Margie Walker Doolen, Salem, Ill.; and Shirley Carlson of Woodland, Calif. He was preceded in death by two granddaughters.

A prayer vigil will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel, with the Revs. Hayden Vaverek and Patrick Winslow officiating, with calling following until 9 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Attica, with the Revs. David Rasner and Hayden Vaverek officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Attica.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Maus Funeral Home, Attica.
