WINONA LAKE - The Grace College men's basketball team has signed a number of players for the upcoming year, many of whom will make an immediate impact on the Lancers.
Teryck Taylor, a 6-foot-4 power forward/center junior transfer from Cumberland College, should quickly work his way into coach Jim Kessler's rotation. Taylor played at Aldine High School in Houston, Texas, and led the state in blocked shots at 7.2 per game his senior year. At Cumberland, he helped the team to a 23-11 record last year.
Brett Seidel, a junior point guard transferring from Mount Union, also should play a key role for the Lancers next year. Seidel originally comes from Ashland, Ohio, but will not be able to play until second semester begins. He could move into the starting lineup very quickly after that point.
Jeremy Wike is a four-year letter-winning forward at Wooster High School in Wooster, Ohio. He was named to the second team all-county, the all-district honorable mention team and hit two game-winning shots this year.
"People like Jeremy do not come along very often," his high school coach Mark Alberts said. "He is an excellent student and a fantastic person. We will miss him as a player and as a person."
Aaron Jackson comes from Dayton Christian High School in Dayton, Ohio.
He will split time at the point and shooting guard positions and could play a large role for the Lancers. He averaged 12 points and 7.0 assists per game as a senior for the 13-8 squad. He was named to the Metro-Buckeye All-Conference team and was also named to the District All-Star Team and the Miami Valley Coaches All-Star team.
Coach Kessler also has signed a number of other players who may take some time to develop, but who should become key members of the program in the future.
Eric Davis was homeschooled in Wilmington, Ohio. He played basketball for Clinton County Christian School and averaged 24 points and 12 rebounds per game as a senior. He was named team MVP three times.
Michael Frede, from Delafield, Wis., played high school basketball at Heritage Christian High School. He was an honorable mention all-conference player and helped his squad to the conference
championship.
"Mike is a good rebounder and plays great help defense," Alan Vance,
his high school coach, said. "As Mike gets stronger, so will his
game."
Lee Compson comes from Warsaw Community High School in Warsaw, IN. He
came off the bench to help the 18-4 Tigers last year.
Douglas Baumgardner comes from Sellersville, PA and played at Faith
Christian Academy. He was a two-year captain at Faith and has a 4.0
GPA.
Finally, Luke Siemon, from New Carlisle, OH, will play for the
Lancers. At Xenia Christian School, he averaged 15.6 points and 14.3
rebounds per game. He was also named first team all-conference as a
senior.
