CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Defending NCCAA National Champion Grace Lancers will have to work hard if they want to defend their volleyball title this year.
The No. 3 seeded Lancers finished second in their pool during the first day of competition Friday after dropping a 15-3, 15-10 decision to No. 2 seed Christian Heritage of California.
Earlier in the day, Grace had beaten Western Baptist 15-13, 15-9 and Cedarville 8-15, 15-9, 16-14.
Grace (31-7) finished 2-1 in pool play and will now play Mt. Vernon Nazarene today. If the Lancers beat Mt. Vernon, they get No. 1 seed Bethel in the semifinals of the single elimination part of the tournament.
Rebecca Wahlstrom led the Lancers on the day with 16 kills against Western Baptist, 24 against Cedarville and 10 against Christian Heritage. She also added 13 blocks against Cedarville.
