Lancers Fall To Huntington

Posted
HUNTINGTON — The Grace College Lancers could not hold onto a late lead against Huntington University, yielding a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh to lose 6-5.
Grace allowed the Foresters’ (10-17; 7-5 MCC) leadoff hitter to single and reach third base on a wild throw. The Lancers (11-17; 1-9 MCC) were forced to load the bases as a result. They managed to get one batter out before giving up the game-winning walk.
Grace did its best to avoid the season sweep, battling from behind to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth. Josh Petry hit a pinch-hit RBI single, and Cam Spitael’s bunt scored Cody Barrier.
The lead increased for the Lancers with two more runs in the sixth inning. Barrier hit a sacrifice fly to score Derek Zwier, and John Nuppnau singled to score Jeff Himes.
Grace entered the bottom of the sixth up 5-2 before Huntington rallied to tie the score in the sixth and walk away with the victory in their final at-bat.
The Lancers will return to action Saturday when they welcome Goshen College to Miller Field for a doubleheader.
The first game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
