ROCHESTER - Lalla J. Heyde, 76, died April 26, 2010, in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, shortly after her arrival.
She was born July 29, 1933, in Rochester, to Edwin C. and Rebabelle McMahan Boswell. On Aug. 29, 1954, in Rochester, she married James W. Heyde, who survives.
She graduated from Rochester High School in 1951, and earned a bachelor's degree in speech and English at DePauw University, graduating in 1955. She pledged the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She was a lifetime member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was among the founders of the Kum Join Us Young Adult Sunday School Class. Later she served her church as middle school Sunday school teacher, director of vacation Bible school and served as the church-sponsored Cub Scout Den mother. She was a Fulton County Library board member from 1996 to 2008. During her tenure she served as president for a number of years. She was one of the longest active members of the Tri-Kappa Sorority and an active member of the Fulton County Republican Women's Club, being honored as Republican Woman of the Year. In addition to her community service she served as president of Enterprises Inc.
Surviving are three sons: Edwin Heyde (and companion Angie Hahn), Indianapolis; David (and spouse Alison) Heyde, Rochester; and Robert (and spouse Theresa) Heyde, Prospect Heights, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Rebecca (and spouse Terry) Smith, Peru.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church, Rochester, with the Rev. Maurice Grindle officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, and one hour prior to service Friday at the church.
