Lakeview held its 10th annual triathlon May 10 with more than 250 eighth-grade participants. More than 55 community volunteers, including 37 volunteers from DePuy, Lakeview’s Partner in Education, as well as 27 educators worked to make the day a success. Students could choose to participate in the Iron man (students each ran 2 miles, biked 7 miles and swam 500 meters) or participate on a team (each student choosing one of the three legs – running, biking, swimming). Students ran on the Lakeview Middle School track, biked at the fairgrounds and swam at the YMCA. Thanks to the support of parents, teachers, cafeteria staff and community members, students were treated to snacks and water throughout the event as well as a pasta lunch after the event. Veteran teachers Chris Boyd and Michelle Harter coordinated the triathlon to teach students how to set and achieve personal fitness goals as well as provide students with a memorable event at the end of their eighth-grade year.
