Lakeland Names Top Students for 2009

Lakeland Christian Academy has announced Michael Matti as valedictorian and Benjamin Blocher as salutatorian for the Class of 2009.

Lakeland Christian Academy's faculty also awards a Timothian award to the graduating senior or seniors who best exemplify the spiritual exhortation found in I Timothy 4:12: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."The 2009 Timothians are Kaitlyn Schneider and Nathan Zuercher.

Michael Matti has earned a grade point average of 4.0 on a 4.0-point scale. (A numeric average of 98.87) Michael is the son of David and Sharon Matti, Milford. Michael is a member of National Honor Society, the vice president of National Honor Society, Student Senate and the senior class. He plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University in the fall with a major in computer internet development. Michael attends North Webster Church of God.

Benjamin Blocher is the son of Barry and Kathy Blocher, North Manchester. Ben has earned a grade point average of 4.0 on a 4.0-point scale. (A numeric average of 98.77) Ben is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the all A honor roll all four years. He has been involved in Kosciusko Youth Leadership Academy and has been a small group leader his junior and senior years at LCA. Ben has attended Lakeland for six years. He will attend Taylor University in the fall majoring in environmental biology. Ben attends Emmanuel Community Church in Ft. Wayne.

Nathan Zuercher is the son of Greg and Cynthia Zuercher, South Whitley. Nathan has attended Lakeland Christian for four years. He is a National Honor Society member and the treasurer for NHS. Nathan is the senior class president and the president of the student senate. He has been involved in soccer, baseball, track, and was named Homecoming King 2008. Nathan plans to attend Grace College in the fall majoring in pastoral ministry. Nathan attends Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church.

Kaitlyn Schneider is the daughter of David and Carrie Schneider. Kaitlyn has attended Lakeland Christian Academy for six years. She is a National Honor Society member and the secretary of NHS, the senior class, and the student senate. Kaitlyn has been involved in numerous school plays, was on the homecoming court and is in a select singing group at Lakeland called Evidence. She plans to attend Grace College in the fall majoring in graphic design. She attends Warsaw Community Church in Warsaw.

Lakeland Christian Academy's graduation ceremony is scheduled for May 30 at 2:00 p.m. at Warsaw Community Church. Family and friends will honor the 28 graduates with a punch reception immediately following the ceremony.
