Lakeland Names 3 Top Students

Lakeland Christian Academy announced Sara Powell as valedictorian and Jordan Byers as salutatorian for the Class of 2006.

Lakeland Christian Academy's faculty also awards a Timothian award to the graduating senior who best exemplifies the spiritual exhortation found in I Timothy 4:12: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." The 2006 Timothian's are Brian Blocher and Jordan Byers.

Powell earned a grade point average of 3.9545 on a 4.0-point scale. She is the daughter of Mark and Becky Powell, Macy. Powell has been a member of National Honor Society and was named the Outstanding Senior in Math and Bible. She plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University in the fall with a major in nursing. She was been awarded the Woodlawn Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship from Woodlawn Hospital. Powell attends Olive Branch Church of God in Roann.

Jordan Byers is the daughter of Brent and Brenda Byers and Laurie Waid, Warsaw. She earned a grade point average of 3.9533 on a 4.0-point scale. Byers was a member of the National Honor Society and was on the all A honor roll all four years. She is planning to attend Moody Bible Institute in the fall with a major in international missions. Byers attends Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church. She attended Lakeland Christian for six years and her activities and accomplishments include homecoming queen, two high school plays, basketball, soccer, choir, KEYS (Kosciusko Endowment Youth Services), and the Outstanding Senior in Art.

Blocher is the son of Barry and Kathy Blocher, North Manchester. He attended Lakeland Christian for six years. He is a National Honor Society member. Blocher was involved in soccer, golf, and has been on the homecoming court. He plans to attend Cedarville University in the fall majoring in mechanical engineering. He attends Emmanuel Community Church in Ft. Wayne.

Lakeland Christian Academy's graduation ceremony is scheduled Saturday at 2 p.m. at Warsaw Community Church. Family and friends will honor the 26 graduates with a punch and cookie reception immediately following the ceremony.
