Lakeland Community Choir And Chamber Orchestra To Present Handel's 'Messiah'

Posted
This season marks the 30th anniversary of choral and orchestral collaboration in the community.
In honor of this celebration, the Lakeland Community Choir and Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Ardis Faber, will present Handel’s “Messiah,” in remembrance of the first community group led by Richard Anderson.
The performance will be Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church, 179 S. Indiana St., Warsaw. The concert is free and the public is invited.
Handel's “Messiah” is often associated with the Christmas season, as the more popular movements pertain to the birth of Jesus Christ, according to a press release from the choir. The work in its entirety, however, spans the whole of Jesus earthly life beginning with the prophecies of his coming, his birth, his teachings, his death and resurrection and his heavenly reign, the release states.
Handel composed the work in the spring of 1742, just in time for Easter.
Vocal soloists are Tammie Huntington, soprano; Lisa Dawson, soprano; Keith Brautigam, tenor; and Conor Angell, bass.
After the “Messiah” performance, the choir will be getting ready for the First Friday in May. The choir will sing a more relaxed, jazz and pop-based program.
Director Judie Meulink invites people to join the choir for the performance. Rehearsals start March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
